At Determination Marine, our marine towing services revolve around support and safety for your vessel and crew. We all know how frustrating it can be to be stuck on the water on a disabled vessel- whether it was caused by mechanical failure or having to weather a storm at sea when there’s no safe harbor. No matter why you find yourself in need of Marine towing, we’re here for you, your vessel, and your crew.
We can tow vessels up to 150 feet long, weather and vessel-dependent, and potentially larger upon request. However, most of our jobs involve helping vessels up to 125 feet with marine towing, including short-distance tows to a repair facility and long-distance towing for repairs over hundreds of miles from port to port.
Who We Work With
As a local leader in marine safety and support services, we provide a combination of convenience and vital services that can be hard to find, including Emergency 24/7 Towing, Un-groundings, and Offshore Towing. We work with recreational and commercial vessels up to 200 feet long.
We are not limited to the immediate surround of Casco Bay, though we are based in Portland, Maine. We operate from the Canadian border at Machiasport, throughout the thousands of coastal islands in Maine and the Gulf of Maine, all the way down to New York. So even if you need a long haul to a very specialized dock for repairs or need a tow for any other reason, we’re happy to discuss your project.

Towing disabled vessels is at the heart of our services, both local and long distance. We tow commercial and pleasure boats along the Maine coast and New England to port for repairs. Whether your vessel’s engine has failed or another vital system isn’t operating correctly, we can safely, quickly, and reliably tow your vessel to the port of your choice for repair. We provide these services year-round and in various weather conditions, depending on the services needed.

Long Distance Marine Towing & Escort
While we help vessels with short-range local tows all the time, we have the rare and valuable experience needed when planning for a long-distance tow.
Long-distance dock-to-dock marine towing is an unusual specialty among marine towing companies. Long-distance towing can be complicated and difficult to plan. It is imperative that you have the right people on your team to ensure the success of the job and that it is done safely without unnecessary complications.
We also provide escort services in the event your vessel is potentially able to make it to its targeted destination under its own power. We can provide an escort vessel with the appropriate equipment at hand if it is needed to appease insurers, owners, or third parties.
How We Get It Done
We have three primary towing vessels. The first and our original boat is the Determination, a 31’ BHM that can tow vessels up to 120’ long over substantial distances. Our other towboat is even more capable; the New Ledge is a 44’ Stanley that can tow vessels up to 150’ under most conditions. For smaller jobs, we have the Aluminum Falcon, which is a 23’ Pacific powered by a 225 HP outboard. We can accomplish the vast majority of towing jobs between these three boats and a couple of smaller support vessels.
That’s the equipment we rely on, but we also rely on our internal expertise and extended network of marine contractors able to assist with Larger operations that require additional skill sets, knowledge, assets, or hands on deck.
